Where does your geographic data currently live?

Think about most of your operational information, not exceptions.

In scattered files: local drives, USB sticks, personal folders for each person. In a shared network or cloud folder, but without formal structure. In a centralized server or database, with controlled access. In a corporate GIS platform (ArcGIS Enterprise, GeoServer, etc.) with active publishing.

How many people in your organization regularly access or edit geographic data?

Include those who use maps even if they're not GIS specialists.

Just 1 person (or myself). Between 2 and 5, all with GIS software installed on their computers. Between 5 and 20; some don't have GIS software but need to view maps. More than 20, including clients or departments that only consume information.

Do you have manual, repetitive processes in your GIS or CAD workflow?

Periodic exports, layer updates, report generation, format conversions…

Not that I recall; processes are one-off and different each time. There are some, but each takes less than 30 minutes a week. Yes, several processes consume between 2 and 8 hours of my team's time weekly. It's a real problem: repetitive tasks consume entire days per month.

What coordinate reference system are your data in?

You don't need to know the exact EPSG code; just whether it's under control.

I don't know for sure; data comes from different sources and we've never verified it. I know in general, but there are layers of unknown origin that sometimes don't align. They're documented and we use a consistent CRS across the organization. We have multiple CRSs properly managed, with transformations applied when needed.

What would happen if the person who knows GIS best in your organization left tomorrow?

This question measures critical dependency and process documentation.

It would be a disaster: no one else knows how the data or processes work. There would be serious problems for weeks until someone catches up. There would be friction, but there's basic documentation and someone who could step up. No problem: processes are documented and more than one person knows them.
